What Does Lemon Meringue Pie Have To Do With Hemp in the USVI?

 Activists Present USVI Senators with a Lemon Meringue Pie in support of Bill No. 29-0350

August 15, 2012 - ST. CROIX -  Celebrities and activists associated with volunteer group Hemp Can Save The Planet presented USVI Senators with a locally made gourmet Lemon Meringue Pie on behalf of USVI Culinary Ambassador, Chef Theo Gumbs, filmmaker Melissa Balin; the late, great civil rights activist, Jack Herer, and countless celebrity activist Hemp Can Save The Planet volunteers, in support of Bill No. 29-0350 - An Act to conduct a referendum on the issue of promoting the production, processing, manufacture and distribution of Industrial Hemp in the Virgin Islands.  Senator Terrance "Positive" Nelson, the first and only Rastafarian senator in the Virgin Islands, is bringing the bill forward. Senator Shawn-Michael Malone of St. Thomas has signed on as the bill’s co-sponsor.

The pie was accompanied with a note that read:

This gift is a delicious token symbolizing the following food for thought:
The lemons used to make this gourmet Lemon Meringue Pie are not indigenous to the Virgin Islands and must be imported.  While the Mainland is the #1 Importer of Industrial Hemp (which much like a lemon, does NOT have psychotropic effects), the United States is currently the only Industrialized Nation that Prohibits the growing of Industrial Hemp, due to antiquated laws based on studies that have since been scientifically debunked.  As one of the remaining “Non-Self Governing Territories” on the United Nations’ list, we enthusiastically encourage the United States Virgin Islands to explore the economic and agricultural solutions presented by what was already being referred to as a “Billion-Dollar Crop” back in 1936, with the USVI Territory having already experienced almost 20 years of legal Cannabis Hemp use without incident, after Denmark’s sale to America in 1917, until Prohibition was implemented under false pretenses in 1937.

The lemon meringue pie was also accompanied with the verbiage of the resolution being presented to the United Nations declaring the End of the Prohibition of Cannabis Hemp, through an online petition on Change.Org.  Filmmaker Melissa Balin says, "I don't think it is a common or advisable policy for government officials to accept food stuffs from constituents, but when the gift is coming from a two-time Iron Chef Winner, who is the Culinary Ambassador for the entire USVI, those are exceptionally delectable circumstances worthy of consideration.  Still, whether the Senators actually eat the pie, or not, we hope it will bring a global awareness to the core issues surrounding Industrial Hemp as a sustainable resource."

National Lemon Meringue Pie Day is celebrated in the United States on August 15th.  To find out more about the many uses of Industrial Hemp, please visit http://www.VoteHemp.org

#ProhibitionIsOver!

Dated July 4th, 2012:

Reminding all nations that the current Scheduling (I) of Cannabis indicates that the controlled substance contains “no medical value”,

Fully aware that the 1937 Prohibition of Cannabis Hemp has been scientifically and historically proven to be based on a series of lies debunked since then,

Alarmed by the environmental disaster presented by the nuclear meltdown of Fukushima and its continuing repercussions to our environment and wildlife;

Taking into account that Industrial Hemp has been used successfully for over 20 years to phytoremediate the damage of Chernobyl,

Recognizing the United States Federal Government currently holds two patents stating the medicinal value of Cannabis as an antioxidant and neuroprotectant;

Further recalling that the United States Federal Government continues to supply Federal Medical Marijuana to four living patients through the Compassionate Investigational New Drug Study Program of 1976; and

Taking into further consideration there are currently seventeen States and the District of Columbia that recognize the medical value of Cannabis through legislation;

Emphasizing the many nations that have already seen decreases in crime with their decriminalization of Cannabis and other controlled substances,

We The People of the known Universe, hereby Resolve that Prohibition is Over.

1.Encourage the Truth about Cannabis Hemp to be included back in the history and medical textbooks

2. Call for meaningful consideration of Industrial Hemp as a solution to the global nuclear crisis in Fukushima.

3.Call for the release of all prisoners of the unconstitutional “War on Drugs” currently in custody for Cannabis Hemp.

4.  Stress the continuing need for impartial and objective information on the economic and social solutions potentially provided by Cannabis Hemp.

Jack Herer Virtual Telethon- Pledge NOW!

It's Not April Fools' That Hemp Can Save The Planet.

Video streaming by Ustream

We are using IndieGogo's crowd funding platform to provide Non-Stop Edutainment hosted by celebrities and activists worldwide, to raise funds and awareness for CCHHI2012, The Jack Herer Initiative. The virtual telethon will include musical interludes, interviews, and sweepstakes prizes every day for those who donate during the virtual Prohibition Tour! "It's Always 4:20 somewhere! And while, it is a California Initiative- this is a global issue that we need to unify around." explains creator of the Virtual Telethon, filmmaker Melissa Balin. "The 24-Hour Live Webcast streamed worldwide on April 1st will be intercut between pre-recorded footage in tribute to Jack Herer and real-time updates on crowd-funding and signatures collected, alongside live performances and comedic relief."

Pledge NOW here:

WHY: The Jack Herer Initiative is the only initiative eligible for the 2012 California ballot that addresses Re-Legalization of Cannabis Hemp as well as the release of non-violent offenders incarcerated for Marijuana convictions. All of the initiatives are running out of time to raise funds for professional signature gatherers and advertising & airtime. Friends & Family of Jack Herer encourage the community to show support for his dream & legacy by signing the petition to place the initiative on the ballot, donating the cost of a gallon of gasoline that could someday be made from Hemp; and Tweeting & Re-Tweeting!

THE DEADLINE FOR SIGNATURES IS THE DAY BEFORE JACK HERER DAY, APRIL 19, SO WE NEED YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS ON OR BEFORE APRIL 16!!! PLEASE HELP US MAKE HISTORY AND SEND A MESSAGE TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT THE VOTERS OF CALIFORNIA WANT A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

What We Need & What You Get

For every dollar donated, we will get another two professionally gathered and verified signatures needed to make our April 19 deadline to get the Jack Herer Initiative on the ballot THIS November! Any additional funds raised will be used to place commercial spots on mainstream avenues and airwaves throughout California to help get the message out about the important issues of ReLegalizing Industrial Hemp and Freeing non-violent Cannabis offenders.

Most campaigns require millions of dollars worth of time and resources to get an Initiative on the ballot. Thanks to Jack Herer (may he rest in peace) and his Freedom Fighting friends- their tireless more than a decade long journey is at a climactic tipping point and we need your help to get to the finish line with only days remaining!

You will be rewarded with more than just feeling good about yourself for doing the right thing, because we have amazing perks being offered and NEW SHHWEEPSTAKES SURPRIZES DAILY for those who pledge over the next 10 days!

If we don’t reach our entire fundraising goal, we still have a shot of getting enough signatures if we do a good enough job tweeting & retweeting and encouraging friends & family to register to vote and sign the petition to put Jack Herer's California Cannabis Hemp & Health Initiative on the 2012 ballot. So Let's Get Activated!

The Impact

This is beyond traditional fundraising for lobbying a cause, by engaging the constituent and peers, directly in a message-oriented transmedia project designed to educate, entertain, and activate.

Other Ways You Can Help

In this economy, we understand that many aren't able to contribute financially, but that doesn’t mean they don't have creative resources that might help:

  • Donate iPads, postage, gasoline cards, food gift certificates, or advertising space and online banner space to the cause.
  • Ask friends & family to help us get the word out on this ten day crowd-funding campaign and make some noise on the Wild Wild Interweb!
  • Please use the Indiegogo share tools liberally!

Thanks for your continued support.
